Twenty years ago, a functional medicine doctor told me something I never forgot: “If we could just heal your gut, your thyroid could heal.” That was controversial then… and in many circles, it still is.
With lifestyle changes, I saw remission—but it wasn’t permanent. And that’s when I realized: this wasn’t going to be a quick fix story. This was going to be a deeper journey. You cannot imagine the health journey this healing has created. I had no idea, but I was only scraping the surface.
What I didn’t understand initially is how interconnected our bodies are: gut, your nervous system, and mind. In the beginning, I thought I was simply trying to lose weight. In reality, I was fighting inflammation and living in a body that was incredibly overwhelmed from the foods I’d eaten my entire life, the trauma and stress I lived with, and the negative thought loops running rampant in my head. Through 60 lbs of weightloss, my face didn’t change until the last 3…because I was inflamed!
In my 40s, I stopped chasing quick fixes and started building real foundations—nutrition, daily rhythms, strength, nervous system support, and supplements based on what my body actually needed and in hopes of correting or balancing my hormones (LIFELONG journey). As my gut improved through nourishment, meditation, and weight lifting, my body stabilized. And I noticed something else shifting too: my thinking. Or maybe it had been shifting all along, without me realizing it.
Somewhere in that process, I became a different person—not through perfection, but through discipline, consistency, and choosing the right things again and again. I became 100% committed to the Heather I was becoming vs the Heather I’d always been.
This podcast began as a gut health endeavor—but it became something more: an unfolding journey of transformation from the inside out. The connection between body, mind, and spirit is personal for each of us, and it’s required to become a new version of you, or to become the real, authentic you. And sometimes, the connection is revealed vs discovered as we unlearn.
This experience has only just begun. Over the last 7 years I’ve taken healing to a whole new level to create a really enjoyable body for age 50 in 2025. My healing experience has been layered and deep because I didn’t take care of myself, consciously and unconsciously until age 43. I kind of, sort of did…but not really.
